“According to experts, there were almost 600 conflicts over non-payment of wages in the fourth quarter. And these are only those cases that the media wrote about. How many cases are unknown?! We are talking about a problem of national importance, which creates ever-increasing social tension,” Rashkin said.
The deputy paid special attention to the situation in the mining village of Gukovo, Rostov region, where more than 2,5 thousand employees of Kingcoal LLC have not received salaries since May 2015. The total amount of debt is 340 million rubles.
Rashkin spoke about the mass hunger strike of protest that the miners staged, as well as how local authorities disrupted the miners’ trip to Moscow for the rally.
“I’ll be honest: the mood among the miners is militant. People have nothing to lose. If you don’t help them now, no one will stop them,” Rashkin said.
He suggested that his colleagues contact Prime Minister Medvedev with a demand to allocate the necessary funds from the reserve fund before March.
According to Russian media, in 2016 payments were made to miners, but in the amount of 1/10 of the total debt. The CEO of Kingcole is on trial for embezzlement.
