A large batch of illegally mined amber was seized in the Rivne region
In the Sarnensky district of the Rivne region, law enforcement officers discovered and seized from local residents 32,8 kilograms of amber, the cost of which on the “black” market is approximately 280 thousand hryvnia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the Communications Department of the Rivne region police.
“During the investigation of criminal proceedings on the fact of hooliganism, police conducted an authorized search at the farm at the place of residence of a 23-year-old resident of the village of Tynnoye, during which they discovered raw amber weighing 9 kg. And in the household of a 26-year-old fellow villager there are 23,85 kg of amber and a handicraft motor pump with accessories for illegal mining,” the police said.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the facts of illegal acquisition, receipt, storage or sale of property obtained by crime under Article 198 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and violation of the rules for the protection or use of subsoil under Part 2 of Article 240 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Previously, the Security Service of Ukraine, together with the prosecutor's office in Transcarpathia, blocked the smuggling of more than a ton of amber to the European Union.
