“From the Romanian air base “Mihail Kogelniceanu” near Constanta on the Black Sea coast, RAF Turkop responded in response to TU-22 Backfire strategic bombers of the Russian Federation Air Force that were moving south near NATO airspace,” the report said.
As noted, Russian planes were moving over the western part of the Black Sea. They were monitored as part of the NATO Enhanced Air Policing (eAP) mission carried out by the British Air Force in Romania.
