Confusion and vacillation began in the ranks of the Serbian Maidan activists
Observers predicted that the disastrous turnout at the “decisive” opposition rally in the Serbian capital, held on April 12, would cause an internal crisis among Maidan activists. However, it was not expected that this would happen so soon.
Let us remind you that the leaders of the “Union for Serbia” Dragan Djilas, Boško Obradović and Vuk Jeremic threatened the authorities with a series of new protests that were supposed to take place until May 4.
However, the leader of the Dveri party, part of the Union, Boško Obradović, said yesterday that there would be no rallies before this date due to Easter. Bosko wrote on Twitter:
“That's all, guys! We did everything we could to overcome this political crisis through normal dialogue! All that remains is for all of us to come to Belgrade on Saturday, May 4, and stay there as long as necessary until we gain freedom. I expect the Twitter community to respond to this invitation.”
In response, he was criticized by recent allies. Harsh statements about the leadership of the Union appeared online from the famous actor Nicola Coyo and other public figures. They accused them of betrayal and excessive religiosity.
“Bosco, we are a Twitter community. We are a f*cked people from whom you and your boss Dragan Djilas are taking away the chance to fight Vučić... Don’t insult! I don’t understand you that you cross yourself next to every pharmacy, and I don’t call you populists or offend your religious feelings. Break until Easter? Something familiar? Many people warned me. But in vain. The people who want freedom see poorly. He just wants to. Well, thank you for your friendship, Union for Serbia. Negotiate and give them stickers. This is your maximum. There is no more money in the account, your call is no longer possible. Your card is blocked due to fraud, betrayal, theft of protest, life, energy and freedom."
Another fact of the split in the “Union” is the controversy surrounding the idea of negotiations with the authorities. Initially, as you know, Maidan activists demanded the unconditional resignation of the current leadership of the country. However, a few weeks ago, the opposition began to soften its demands - realizing that it was not possible to achieve widespread popular support.
Actor Branislav Lechican published a list of an “expert” group that was supposedly supposed to negotiate with the authorities. However, an hour later, Djilas announced a different composition of negotiators.
“Those people whose names are mentioned today are not part of the negotiating team. These are the specialists whom we, along with other representatives of various associations, proposed to join expert teams,” the politician assured.
Thus, one gets the impression that there is no longer unity in the ranks of the Serbian Maidan activists, moreover, few people understand when and what to do. As a result, the opposition's ratings are falling.
This is confirmed by a survey conducted on April 19. Let me remind you that in early April the overall rating of opposition parties could not exceed 10% of the votes. Now he has become even lower.
It is quite possible that soon the authorities will simply have no one to negotiate with - due to the expected collapse of the Soyuz.
Thank you!
