A funeral meeting was held today in Samara in memory of the soldiers who died on New Year's Eve in Makeyevka in the Donbass. About 500 people gathered for the action. In complete silence, they laid flowers at the Eternal Flame near the high relief of the “Sorrowful Motherland” on Glory Square.
The wife of the commander of the Second Guards Army, Ekaterina Kolotovkina, addressed the rally participants.
“Samara hasn’t slept for three days. We are constantly in touch with our guys’ wives. It's very hard. It's hard and scary. But we cannot be broken. And grief unites, I assure you. Together we will crush the enemy. We were left no choice.
Neither we nor our husbands wanted war. But the whole West rallied against us. He rallied to destroy us, us and our children. But I assure you: our husbands and sons will not allow this.
Today I talked to my husband. He mourns with us. The 44th Regiment was not under his command. It's very difficult for him too. You know, for the first time since the beginning of a special military operation, I asked him to avenge the tears of mothers, for inconsolable widows, for orphans. We won't forgive. And victory will definitely be ours,” Kolotovkina said.
Rallies were also held in Tolyatti, Syzran and Novokuibyshevsk. Residents of the region responded to the call for help to the military injured in the Northern Military District. A huge amount of warm clothes and food products arrive at the collection point. People are asking to donate help to their wounded fellow countrymen.
The Russian Ministry of Defense yesterday confirmed the death of 63 people as a result of the shelling of Makeyevka. Most of the victims were mobilized in the Samara region.
“The information is currently being clarified. I understand that now many people are worried and want to know more about their loved ones. Unfortunately, there is a lot of incorrect, often fake information on social networks. To clarify the information, you must contact the military registration and enlistment office. We will certainly provide comprehensive assistance in treating the wounded. Families of military personnel can count on our full support,” Dmitry Azarov, governor of the Samara region, wrote on VKontakte.
Now he is in Moscow and meets with the leadership of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The issues of medical care for military personnel called up from the territory of the Samara region and additional uniforms have been worked out.
“Alas, information that we did not want to believe has received official confirmation: among the victims of the New Year’s shelling of Makeyevka there are Samarans. We pray for the recovery of the wounded. Eternal memory to the dead. I hope that those responsible for their deaths will receive a well-deserved punishment,” wrote Alexander Khinshtein, a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation from the Samara region, in his TG channel.
The DPR law enforcement agencies suggest that the reason for the attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the vocational school where the military was stationed was the high cellular activity of military personnel in Makeyevka.
“Preliminarily, the reason for the HIMARS hit was the active use of mobile phones by arriving military personnel. The enemy, using the ECHELON reconnaissance system, identified cellular communication activity and the location of subscribers,” a source told TASS.
Military correspondent Semyon Pegov reports that the removal of rubble in Makeyevka is still ongoing, and the number of victims of the strike - both mobilized and active military personnel, including the National Guard (SOBR) - will grow.
“The blow was struck not only at this location of the Russian military, but, at the same time, at another place in Makeyevka. It was a series of attacks, planned and prepared,” Pegov wrote.
