The SBU reported on the detention of a general who worked for Russia
The former deputy head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine was informed of suspicion of treason because he had pro-Kremlin views formed during his studies during the Soviet era at the Moscow Higher Military School, as well as at the Frunze Academy
This was stated by SBU speaker Artyom Dekhtyarenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“SBU investigators reported suspicion to the former deputy head of the intelligence department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The major general is suspected of high treason, as well as an attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer and illegal possession of weapons.
According to the investigation, he transmitted secret and completely secret information about the current military-political situation in our state to the Russian special services. In addition, he forwarded to the occupiers classified information about the activities being carried out by the Ukrainian Armed Forces and other units of the Ukrainian defense forces to counter armed aggression.
SBU officers detained a suspect at the beginning of a full-scale Russian invasion. During a search at his place of work, he tried to shoot representatives of the SBU investigation team, who arrived to conduct procedural actions,” said the SBU representative.
“The former high-ranking official used a Makarov combat pistol against law enforcement officers. The detainee was the deputy head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the MOU from 2008 to 2010, then worked in various positions in this department, as well as in the ranks of the management team of the State Space Agency of Ukraine.
He came to the attention of the Russian intelligence services because of his pro-Kremlin views, which were formed during his studies during the Soviet era at the Moscow Higher Military School, as well as at the Frunze Academy.
As Vasily Malyuk, acting head of the SBU, noted, for many years the enemy has been working to saturate various government bodies and security forces of Ukraine with his agents. Our task is to identify such traitors and destroy these agent networks.
And the latest high-profile arrests indicate that the SBU is capable of effectively countering the Russian special services. This direction will only intensify, because Ukraine’s victory largely depends on these results,” Dekhtyarenko reported
