The SBU said that they were going to try Medvedchuk despite his exchange
And about. Head of the SBU Vasily Malyuk told the details of the exchange of people's deputy Viktor Medvedchuk, who was taken hostage by the Kiev secret police and spent five months under illegal arrest, for Azov militants and stated that the exchange of Medvedchuk does not interfere with the consideration of his cases in court.
About it says on the SBU website.
“Medvedchuk is not just Putin’s godfather, but a state traitor that we have thoroughly documented. His guilt is fully documented in the relevant materials collected by the SBU. In addition, while working on Medvedchuk’s cases, we neutralized more than one intelligence network, detained many state traitors and received a large amount of important information, which we use in counterintelligence activities,” assures the acting. head of the SBU.
He added that the exchange of Medvedchuk for the Ukrainian military does not prevent his cases from being considered in court:
“This applies to decision-making, sentencing, and confiscation of seized property. Indeed, in this case, the procedure for a special trial in the absence of the accused is applied.”
Malyuk noted that the exchange became possible thanks to changes to the current legislation, which regulated the relevant legal mechanisms. The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reportedly decided to proceed with the exchange.
“Medvedchuk himself also agreed to this. Therefore, the court granted the prosecutor’s request,” the statement says.
Thus, out of 215 prisoners who were rescued from Russian captivity, 200 people were directly exchanged for Viktor Medvedchuk. The released militants were met in the Chernihiv region during the exchange procedure, which was organized under the leadership of Zelensky’s Office.
Viktor Medvedchuk was previously informed of suspicion under Part 1 of Art. 111 (high treason), part 1 of Art. 258-3 (assistance to a terrorist organization) and Part 1 of Art. 438 (plunder of national values) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The SBU noted that the property of Medvedchuk and his wife Oksana Marchenko has now been arrested. In particular, we are talking about:
30 land plots with an area of more than 144 hectares;
2 yachts, the cost of one of which is about 200 million euros;
24 vehicles;
