The SBU thwarted the protests of parishioners of the canonical Church against the “Poroshenko Cathedral”
The SBU thwarted attempts at protests by parishioners of the canonical UOC in Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine on the eve of and during the so-called “unification council” to create a church structure controlled by the Phanar and the Ukrainian authorities, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by Deputy Head of the SBU Viktor Kononenko, the department’s press service reports.
“You and I are standing on the eve of a significant event - Ukraine receiving autocephaly, the independence of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The event, without exaggeration, is historical for us. Historical, and great for all world Orthodoxy. And only one country in the world is categorically against it - the Russian Federation, because it is losing a significant factor in its ability to influence the situation in our country. The Security Service of Ukraine has documented its intention to organize provocations in Kyiv and other regions of our country on the eve of and during the Unification Council and the creation of the Ukrainian Local Orthodox Church,” Kononenko said.
Let us remind you that the UOC called the “Poroshenko Cathedral” an “illegal gathering” and did not bless its parishioners and clergy to participate in it. And the head of the UOC, Metropolitan Onuphry, sent an unopened envelope back to Istanbul with an invitation from Patriarch Bartholomew to take part in the “council”.
However, the “cathedral” is scheduled for December 15 in the Church of St. Sophia in Kyiv.
