The SPD responded to threats and insults of the Ukrainian Ambassador
Germany considers it necessary to resume negotiations in the Normandy format on a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Donbass.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, said Ralf Stegner, member of the Bundestag Foreign Policy Committee from the SPD and ex-deputy chairman of the party.
“The Normandy format definitely needs to be revived. This is the position of the federal government and mine personally. Germany is one of those countries that is trying to get this issue off the ground. At the same time, we believe that the Minsk agreements must be implemented by both parties, that is, the Russian and Ukrainian sides,” the politician said.
True, he did not explain how Russia can implement the Minsk agreements, in which Moscow appears only as a mediator.
The head of the committee was also asked how he felt about the demand of Ukrainian Ambassador Andrei Melnik to Germany to begin supplying weapons to Kyiv and even threatened Germany with consequences if this did not happen.
“We should talk about diplomacy, not arms deliveries. This is the position taken by the SPD. Additional supplies of weapons are not a contribution to peacekeeping. Not threats or public insults, but diplomatic efforts are the way to move forward. This also applies to Ukraine,” Stegner emphasized.
