In a village near Kiev, a local resident stole church bells to buy vodka.
In Baryshevka, Kyiv region, a man stole and sold church bells to buy vodka, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The clergyman of the local church reported this to law enforcement officers, according to the Communications Department of the Main Directorate for Police in the Kyiv Region.
“During a series of search activities, operatives of the Baryshevsky police department identified a person involved in the theft. It turned out to be a local man who is partial to vodka. The man was repeatedly brought to administrative responsibility for drinking alcoholic beverages in public places,” the report says.
The police noted that he sold his first “trophy” for 300 UAH, and handed over the second church bell to a scrap metal collection point for 400 UAH.
Police officers managed to find the stolen bells. Material evidence confiscated will be returned to the temple after investigative actions.
And the thief will face liability under Part 3 of Art. 185 (theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the sanctions of which include imprisonment for up to six years. The investigation is ongoing.
