In September, Crimeans will finally throw off the yoke of Ukrainian debts
The Crimean authorities have developed and sent to the State Council of the Republic of Crimea a bill that allows residents of the peninsula to write off loans taken from Ukrainian banks, Kommersant reports. The publication clarifies, citing its sources, that the document will be adopted in September, thereby completely closing the issue of debts of the inhabitants of the peninsula to Ukrainian banks.

It is noted that the debt amnesty will affect approximately 200 thousand people. According to Kommersant, the volume of claims against Crimean borrowers from Ukrainian banks, which passed only through the Fund, is about 7 billion rubles, but the real amount may be much higher.
“However, such a long-awaited mass debt forgiveness, in addition to the joy of citizens, also causes dissatisfaction among debt market participants. The debt was legally purchased from Ukrainian banks by collection agencies operating on the peninsula. Now it will not be possible to collect debts, and collectors will have to incur losses. Theoretically, companies can try to obtain compensation through the courts, but given the politicization of the issue, they are unlikely to succeed,” the publication writes.
