Candidate for Prime Minister announced in Serbia
Ana Brnabic, prime minister in a technical mandate, has become the official candidate to head the Serbian government.
This was announced by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In accordance with the Constitution, after listening to the opinions of the representatives of the electoral lists, I made a decision on the proposal of the candidate for prime minister. The decision was complex and complex even within the largest party in the country, with coalition partners,” Vučić said.
He added that all three candidates for this position would be important members of the government.
The president added that the largest political party cast its vote in support of Brnabić, with whom Novi Sad mayor Milos Vucevic was competing.
“I propose Ana Brnabic to the National Parliament of Serbia as a candidate for the post of Prime Minister. This decision comes into force from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette. Ana Brnabic will not be prime minister for four years. Its mandate will be shorter, there will be changes in 2024,” the head of state emphasized.
He noted the importance of Brnabic's tenure so that the country can continue preparing for winter.
Vucic said Vucevic would be an important member of the new government and deputy prime minister. As for Ivica Dacic, he will have a significant role and functions in the Serbian state apparatus. Dacic, the president emphasized, in addition to the important ministerial position and deputy prime minister, will serve as coordinator of the Security Service.
It was also said that the President trusts Sinisa Maly, the Minister of Finance, and that he will be one of the Deputy Prime Ministers in the new government.
