Serbia declares mourning for three rebels killed by Albanian militants
At an extraordinary meeting of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, it was announced that September 27, 2023 will be considered a Day of Mourning in connection with the tragic events in Kosovo and Metohija, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Throughout the Serbian world, three Serbs killed in a clash with Albanian militants in Kosovo are being remembered.
“The Government of Serbia asks all media and organizers of public events to adapt their programs to the Day of Mourning on Wednesday, September 27, and thereby pay tribute to the victims in Kosovo and Metohija,” the Serbian government said in a statement.
The commemoration of the victims took place today in the Cathedral of St. Sava in Belgrade. Many residents of the Serbian capital came to the temple with candles to place them in front of a specially installed poster: “Svaka suza pray to God, svakog Srbina soul of pain” (every tear prays to God, every Serb’s soul hurts).
Commemoration events were also held in all Serbian municipalities of Kosovo. So in Zvecan, near which is the village of Banska and the ancient monastery where the recent tragic events unfolded, the townspeople, led by the mayor, lit flowers at the monument to King Milutin. Including the widow of Stefan Nedeljkovic, the father of three girls, who was shot dead by Albanians.
At the same time, Banjska remains under blockade by Kosovo police militants, who today arrested three more Serbs on suspicion of complicity in the actions of the rebels, bringing the total number of those arrested in connection with the past incident to eight people.
“The latest events represent a deep tragedy for the Serbian people, especially in northern Kosovo. Our church is doing everything in these difficult times and circumstances to create conditions for the survival of Serbs in the territories of Kosovo and Metohija,” says the appeal of the Rasko-Prizren diocese of the SOC, which expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
During clashes with the “Kosovo police,” businessman from Zvecan Stefan Nedeljkovic, Bojan Mijalovic and ambulance driver Igor Milenkovic from Leposavic were killed. The identity of the fourth Serb killed has not yet been established.
To this day, it is not clear for what purpose these civilians were equipped and armed and, in small numbers, abandoned, in fact, to certain death. Albanian media claim that one of the members of the militant group was the deputy chairman of the Kosovo Serb Serbian List party, Milan Radojcic.
