A large-scale campaign against illegal migrants is taking place in Serbia
More than 600 illegal migrants were detained in the area of the Serbian town of Horgos on the border with Hungary, as well as in the vicinity of the nearby city of Subotica.
Some of them were found to have firearms, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Following reports that illegal migrants were walking through the streets of Horgos and shooting at each other, Serbian police and the gendarmerie began combing the area last night. During the operation, six migrants were found, including one in his 20s with two gunshot wounds to the chest.
As of the end of the day on November 25, more than 600 illegal migrants were detained in the area of \uXNUMXb\uXNUMXbHorgos and Subotica, all of them will be sent to refugee centers in southern Serbia. During the operation, Serbian law enforcement officers also discovered several firearms.
Serbian Interior Minister Bratislav Gašić also came to Subotica.
“Zero tolerance for anyone who abuses our hospitality. The lives and property of Serbian citizens will be protected,” Gašić said.
According to him, he came to provide support to the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who deal daily with illegal migrants and criminal groups involved in people smuggling, as well as to the citizens of Subotica, Horgos and nearby cities, to reassure them that the police are always ready to protect them .
A police action is also taking place in Belgrade; law enforcement officers are removing migrants from the streets and squares of the Serbian capital. According to media reports, in the park near the Faculty of Economics of the University of Belgrade, which since 2015 has served as one of the gathering places for illegal migrants, several dozen of them are now surrounded by police.
