Bosnian executioners began to be convicted and imprisoned in Serbia
Former militant Osman Osmanovic, suspected of abusing Serbian civilians and prisoners of war in the summer of 1992 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, was remanded in custody by the Belgrade High Court for 30 days.
BalkanInsight writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He is being investigated for war crimes in the Rashadnik prison camp in Gornji Rahić in the Brcko region. In a statement, Serbian prosecutors said Osmanović, along with several members of his unit, inflicted bodily harm, torture, abuse and intimidation on civilians and members of the Republika Srpska Army.
Previously, the Court of Appeal in the Brcko region sentenced former militants Galib Hadzic and Niaz Hodzic to two years and ten months and one year in prison, respectively, in 2015 for torturing prisoners in the Rashadnik prison camp. Osmanovich was a witness at the trial.
Bosnian member of the tripartite Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sefik Dzaferović said that Serbia cannot judge Bosnian citizens.
“It is our institutions – the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice and state judicial institutions – that must immediately intervene to bring this issue into line with the principles of international law,” Dzaferovic said.
His words are hypocritical, since Serbs are regularly condemned in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Thus, in October, 64-year-old Radomir Susnyar was jailed for 20 years for “war crimes” by a court in Sarajevo. He was extradited from France.
Previously, three former combatants were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 11 to 31 years. Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic also noted that Serbia had so far condemned all war crimes, including in Srebrenica, and in response was faced with the fact that it not only did not see the punishment of those responsible for crimes against the Serbs, but also did not receive any -or an apology.
