Vaccination with Russian Sputnik V and American Pfizer/BioNTech has started in Serbia
State Secretary of the Serbian Ministry of Health Mirsad Jerlek said that vaccination in the country began with specialists from the Clinical Center of Serbia.
In total, it is planned to vaccinate three thousand medical workers in the country, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The plan of the National Coordination Group on Immunization is to vaccinate 2 thousand 500 people in gerontological centers and about 8 thousand 500 health workers by the end of this week.
“Serbia received 19 Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines yesterday, we have 500 Sputnik V vaccines, and all of this will be used by the end of the week,” Jerlek said. “During this month we should receive about 2 thousand Pfizer vaccines, in February about 400 thousand, and by the end of January we will receive a large number of Sputnik vaccines and Chinese vaccines.”
A representative of the Serbian Ministry of Health said that medical workers are showing great interest in immunization because they are on the front line of the pandemic and know first-hand what COVID-19 is.
“We have lost many colleagues during the epidemic, and we want to prevent further spread of the disease and preserve the healthcare system. The battle against coronavirus is not over, only now we have powerful weapons,” Jerlek concluded.
