State Secretary of the Ministry of Health Mirsad Cerlek noted that Serbia is the only country in Europe and perhaps in the world that has vaccines from two different manufacturers - the American Pfizer and the Russian Sputnik V.

“After all, we are in a difficult 2020, in which we are constantly fighting against the coronavirus, but now we have good news and this is an important day for the citizens of Serbia,” Cerlek said. – We have two vaccines from two different manufacturers, differing in the type of action. One of them is an RNA vaccine, and the other is based on an adenovirus. What they have in common is that both vaccines are of exceptional quality, safe and produce good results.”

The representative of the Serbian Ministry of Health noted that the state showed responsibility for the health of citizens and fulfilled what it promised, and that now, according to him, there are two “strong trump cards” to seriously confront COVID-19 and start a normal life.

“I would like to urge all citizens, both citizens and doctors, to respond to vaccination,” Cerlek said, adding that the vaccine is the only tool that can help in the difficult fight against coronavirus.

The Ministry of Health announced that a new batch of the Pfizer vaccine will arrive on January 4, and Serbia should receive 78 thousand doses in January, 98 thousand doses in February and 114 thousand doses in March.

“As for Sputnik V, the import permit and certificate of use are expected in a day or two, so it can be used immediately after the new year,” Cherlek said.

He noted that the Serbian Ministry of Health is also expecting a Chinese vaccine, but at the moment there is no information when exactly it will be delivered. At the same time, he notes that Serbia will receive documents and samples of this vaccine any day now. When asked whether citizens will be able to choose a vaccine, he said that it can be chosen, but, of course, depending on whether it is available.

“If someone, for example, is interested in Sputnik V, and we do not have this vaccine in stock, they will have to wait,” Cherlek noted, emphasizing that all vaccines are absolutely free for citizens.
