Footage of dying “Ukraine” appeared online
The unfinished missile cruiser "Admiral of the Fleet Lobov" (after 1993 - "Ukraine"), which was inherited by the "Independent" after the collapse of the USSR, stands on the territory of the Nikolaev Shipyard in a deplorable state.
The corresponding video recording was published on the YouTube channel “Defense Express Channel,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The footage shows that the cruiser’s hull was long ago covered with rust, and all that was left of the paint were rags.
At the same time, a representative of the plant is trying to prove that this is not rust, but just “seen primer,” and in general, the ship is in “good condition.”
In the office premises, against a background of peeling paint, new but hopelessly outdated equipment is still preserved, and in the wardroom there is still a portrait of ex-President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma.
It should be noted that the missile cruiser "Ukraine", whose readiness was 95%, is one of four ships of Project 1164 "Atlant".
Three cruisers of this project, completed before the advent of “independence,” continue to serve in the Russian Navy: the cruiser “Moskva” is the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, “Varyag” is the flagship of the Pacific Fleet, and “Marshal Ustinov” is in the service of the Northern Fleet.
In 2017, ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko He has made a decision about dismantling all installed equipment and selling the cruiser for scrap metal. However, on July 21, during a visit to the Nikolaev Shipyard, new President Vladimir Zelensky announced his intention to change the decision on the cruiser.
“We won’t let you saw it. This is impossible,” he said.
Earlier, the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Defense, Ivan Vinnik, admitted that the state that won Euromaidan there is no possibility to complete and commission the missile cruiser "Ukraine", which has been standing at the berth of a shipbuilding plant in Nikolaev for many years.
