The #freevolkov campaign has started on the Internet in support of the arrested Ukrainian journalist
An action for the release of Ukrainian journalist Pavel Volkov, accused by the SBU of terrorism, has started on social networks, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Pavel wrote that Kyiv is violating the Minsk agreements, and civilians in Donbass are coming under fire from the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In Ukraine they began to imprison everyone who speaks outside the general pro-Ukrainian line. This is the same as if now in Russia the presenter of “Echo of Moscow” Venediktov was being tried for saying, “Crimea must be returned to Ukraine.” You can be for or against, but putting someone in prison is savagery,” they write on social networks.
On September 27, 2017, SBU officers burst into Pavel’s apartment in Zaporozhye and charged him under Art. 110 part 2 (violation of territorial integrity) and Art. 258 part 1 (on promoting terrorist activities) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The charges as evidence of his guilt are based on his VKontakte page and articles on sensitive socio-political topics.
