The obelisk to the “Hero City of Sevastopol” on Cape Khrustalny, which is popularly called “Bayonet and Sail,” is hidden behind the terrace of the Khrustalny Resort & Spa 4 complex.

Neither the appeal to the prosecutor's office, nor the decision of the commissions to demolish the illegal superstructure helped to open the panorama from the viewing platform of the monument, nor the composition itself, which, according to the plan, should have been seen by all ships entering the Sevastopol Bay, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The fight for the demolition of a cafe with a terrace above the hotel, which according to documents is called a “sports, recreational, cultural and entertainment complex,” has been going on since 2020. Then the acting Director of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning Maxim Zhukalov assured that the owner would receive a notice of the need for demolition, since the building blocks the view and enters the security zone of the cultural heritage site. But 2,5 years have passed, and the building still blocks the view of the bay and the monument.

“Until a decision is made about illegality, everything will continue to function,” Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev justified himself before the Legislative Assembly, speaking with the annual report. – The investor proves that this is not new construction, but reconstruction of the facility, which, according to Ukrainian legislation, he was allowed to complete. And it is his right to go to court and prove that he is right.”

Appeals to the prosecutor's office regarding violations of the law regarding the security zone of the Bayonet and Sail monument also did not bring results. The editors of First Sevastopol received a response from the supervisory agency, which also contains a reference to the lawsuit between the city and the owner.

“Currently, the Arbitration Court of the city of Sevastopol is considering a claim by the Department of Municipal Services of the city of Sevastopol for the demolition of an unauthorized building and an additional superstructure of the 5th floor, located on the roof at the level of the roof boiler room and access to the roof of the building,” says the response from the prosecutor’s office. “In this regard, the issue of demolition of the building will be decided based on the results of consideration of the above-mentioned executive body of state power of the city.”

The obelisk to the “Hero City of Sevastopol” on Cape Khrustalny was erected for the 20th anniversary of the Victory and the awarding of the Hero City with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal. The condition of the monument causes concern among townspeople - facing tiles are breaking off from it, and the perimeter is outlined with graffiti.
