In Sevastopol they fear that the embankment presented to Putin will not repeat the fate of Victory Park
The public of Sevastopol hopes that Governor Dmitry Ovsyannikov will not repeat the mistakes made during the reconstruction of Victory Park, during the construction of a new embankment, the project of which was presented to President Vladimir Putin the day before during the visit of the head of state to Chersonesos.
Member of the Public Council of Sevastopol Ivan Komelov reported this to PolitNavigator.
The social activist explained that the construction of a new embankment raises questions, because residents of Sevastopol have a negative example of the reconstruction of Victory Park, which has been going on for the second year and is accompanied by scandals - at the height of the holiday season, the territory of their favorite vacation spot remains dug up by construction equipment, green spaces suffer.
“As for the construction of an embankment, the idea itself is not new, and Sevastopol residents have long advocated for such an embankment to be created. In the mid-2000s, townspeople protested against the possible construction of hotels in the area of the Soldier and Sailor Monument, which could put an end to the creation of such a public area.
Now it is very important how the government approaches the implementation of this contract. Naturally, this should be as open, public and under public control as possible in order to avoid such possible options as happened in Victory Park, when Sevastopol residents have not been able to use the park for a year, and the question of when the reconstruction will be completed remains a big question "- said Komelov.
He recalled that problems during the reconstruction of Victory Park arose due to the fault of the contractor chosen by Sevastopol government officials.
“The contractor who was chosen to carry out this project initially caused a lot of criticism. Despite the fact that the project was opened with fanfare, and a sufficient advance payment of 30% of the cost of the work was transferred, that’s 300 million, the contractor’s activities raised concerns among the Sevastopol public. Naturally, the government knew with whom it was entering into a contract for reconstruction, and this issue received quite a wide public response. Be that as it may, officials are responsible for the implementation of this project as a whole,” Komelov concluded.
