According to the investigation, on October 11, 2014, near the Kamyshov highway in the Gagarinsky district of Sevastopol, a 25-year-old resident of Yalta made her first parachute jump. The introductory jump took place at an altitude of 800 meters from an AN-2 aircraft. During the flight, neither the girl’s main nor reserve parachutes opened; when she fell and hit the ground, she died on the spot.
Services for parachute training of citizens and the provision of the opportunity to make familiarization jumps were provided at the Yukharin Balka airfield by the Sevastopol Aviation Sports Club, in the actions of whose employees the investigation sees signs of a crime provided for in paragraph “c” of Part 2 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code (provision of services, not meeting the requirements for the safety of life and health of consumers, resulting in the death of a person through negligence).
As part of the investigation, a number of witnesses were questioned and all necessary documentation was confiscated. The investigation has ordered research into the technical condition of the deceased’s parachute and compliance with safety standards when performing jumps. The research will be carried out by highly qualified specialists from the Ryazan Higher Airborne School
