The head of the education department of Sevastopol, Viktor Oganesyan, announced this on air on the STV channel.
“I met with parent activists and held meetings with school directors. An almost unanimous opinion was expressed: it was time to end the revolutions. We need to look for an opportunity to preserve all the good things that were in the previous education system. The Ukrainian language is the positive capital that we have. There is an excellent methodological base, there are strong, worthy teachers. Therefore, it was decided to keep this subject in the school curriculum. I don’t think knowing another language will hurt anyone,” the official said.
At the same time, Oganesyan noted that the number of hours allocated to Russian language and literature will increase by 50 percent.
“The teaching of the Ukrainian language, which was dominant before the referendum, will be reduced by half. That is, if previously 2-5 hours a week were allocated to it, now 7 hours are allocated to the Ukrainian language and 2 to Ukrainian literature,” emphasized the head of the Sevastopol education department.
