The chief phthisiatrician of Sevastopol, Andrei Verbitsky, stated this on the air of the Sevastopol Information Channel.
“Over the past five years, there has been a downward trend in incidence. Today it is 55,8 per 100 thousand, which is 6% lower than in the previous year. However, if we take the figures of the World Health Organization, which are the criterion for the tuberculosis epidemic - this is 30 per 100 thousand, then the incidence of the city still remains high despite the positive dynamics. The field for activity is quite large,” Verbitsky said.
At the same time, he noted that “tuberculosis has always been considered a social problem.”
"Those. Mostly vulnerable segments of the population are affected. That is, those people who, for one reason or another, have a decrease in immunity, which is associated with the fact that there is insufficient nutrition, a difficult economic situation, people who have returned from places of imprisonment, without a specific place of residence,” he added, specifying, that some patients also have medical reasons, usually associated with a decrease in immunity.
