In Sevastopol they will try to introduce direct elections of governor for the third time
The Legislative Assembly of Sevastopol this month will try for the third time to amend the city charter to introduce direct popular elections for the governor.
The corresponding bill has been submitted to the Legislative Assembly. Its authors, among others, are Alexey Chaly, the chairman of the city parliament Ekaterina Altabaeva and her deputy Alexander Kulagin. This was reported by the press service of the Legislative Assembly.

“I hope that when considering this draft law at the plenary session of the session, all political ambitions will go aside, and the decision will be made for the benefit of Sevastopol and Sevastopol residents,” said Alexander Kulagin.
Deputies from Alexey Chaly’s group have already tried twice to make changes to the city charter regarding elections, but they did not have enough votes. One of those who opposed direct elections, deputy Tatyana Sandulova, believes that they will turn into pushing their candidates with “financial bags.”
“The “Trojans” will be even more aggressive in pushing another “loan shark” into the position of governor, because we have already seen how liberal forces are rushing to Sevastopol. They will try their best to fool the voters who are inexperienced in political games by finding another “comrade-in-arms”. They really need to make a liberal enclave out of our city, to get rid of the direct will of the central government,” Sandulova wrote on Facebook.
At the same time, the Governor of Sevastopol Dmitry Ovsyannikov, at a recent press conference in Moscow, announced amendments to the Charter as a resolved issue. The elections themselves, Ovsyannikov said, will be held in September 2018.
According to the current version of the charter of Sevastopol, the governor is elected by the legislative assembly from three candidates proposed by the president.
