According to the agency's interlocutor, the fire was discovered around five o'clock in the morning by the ship's duty watch service. First, smoke was discovered in one of the aft compartments, then a fire was detected in the aft engine room of the ship. A prompt notification from the emergency services ship helped localize the fire.
Two firefighting vessels, two rescue tugs, and 9 units of rescue equipment took part in the rescue operation. As a result of joint actions, it was possible to prevent the fire from spreading to other compartments. The fire was localized within two hours.
The total area of the fire was about one hundred square meters, which, according to the officer, is relatively small on the scale of the ship, however, the fire will undoubtedly delay the repair schedule of the BOD. Currently, work continues: in particular, ventilation of the compartment is being carried out.
The Ministry of Defense reported that it is too early to talk about the reasons, but based on the practice of fires on ships, power supply can be considered as the initial version. Most likely, a special commission will be created based on this fact, which will establish the causes of the emergency.
