An eyewitness to the events, a second-year student Sebadayev, said: “It all started as usual. Classes started at 8:40. Until 10-00 everything was calm. We came to the audience for the second couple. We were waiting for the lecture to start. Suddenly a classmate runs in and says: “Get your things, we’ve been captured!” We were at a loss, took our bags, and went to the exit. At the exit there is a man in camouflage, with a weapon, wearing a mask, but without identification marks. Moreover, his assault rifle was not an AK-74, but an AKM-47, which is not currently used by the police and military. It looked like self-defense... We were asked to leave the premises... No one explained anything.”

At that moment, police officers were standing at the exit (also in full combat readiness).

To the questions: “What’s going on?”, visitors answered: “You’re on vacation now. Eternals."

Closer to noon, the Russian tricolor and the flag of Sevastopol were raised on the flagpoles (until that moment, the state flags of Ukraine had flown near the banking institute).

At 17:00, the head of the city education department, Viktor Oganesyan, announced a general gathering of students in the assembly hall of the university. The goal is to explain what is happening as well as prospects for the future.

As it turned out, the whole matter came down to simple personnel changes. In place of Boris Dadashev (temporarily acting director of the institute), by order of acting. Oksana Grishchenko (formerly deputy director) was appointed Governor Sergei Menyailo.

Dadashev himself perceived everything that was happening as nothing other than “settling political scores.” That is why he scheduled a meeting with students also at 17:00, but not in the institute building, but in the adjacent park.

The audience was divided approximately equally.

Boris Dadashev, surrounded by devoted students, tried to explain to them that “everything is not so simple.”

“These people (the governor, the head of the education department) do not have the authority to remove or appoint someone from office. The status of our institute has not yet been determined. The National Bank of Ukraine should abandon this university in favor of the Central Bank of Russia. That's what will happen. But local authorities cannot interfere in these processes. Moreover, Oksana Grishchenko, who allegedly took my position, was convicted of plagiarism. Now there is a question of depriving her of the title of associate professor - the candidate’s thesis is being checked...”, he said.

And then Oganesyan appeared on the summer terrace. He tried to interrupt Dadashev’s speech and call on the students to move to the assembly hall.

However, the youth were in no hurry to follow the official’s instructions. And after Boris Dadashev commanded: “Let’s leave,” most of the students jumped off the benches.

It should be noted that soon both the students and the ex-head of the university ended up in the building of the Institute of Banking.

Dadashev, with a smile on his face, tried to explain to journalists that he did not insist on maintaining the “Ukrainian registration” of the educational institution, but was sure that the city authorities did not have the right to interfere in the affairs of the university.

In the assembly hall, passions did not subside. Rather, it’s the other way around. Victor Oganesyan was interrupted either by the students themselves, or even by the former temporary head of the institute.

The head of the education department, after another attempt by Dadashev to interrupt his speech, could not stand it and, raising his voice, said, pointing to his counterpart: “Who are you listening to? He’s nobody here from today!”

Dadashev waved his hand and shouted again, addressing the students: “We’re leaving!” By the way, almost half of the hall obeyed the instructions.

It was possible to establish a dialogue with the remaining students of the Institute of Banking, although not immediately.

Victor Oganesyan introduced the new director – Oksana Grishchenko. She, in turn, thanked the students for their attention, promised that nothing would change for them, classes would be held as usual, and the teaching staff would not undergo changes.

The head of the education department, in turn, said that everyone who wants to will be able to complete their studies without any problems.

“Current bachelors will receive Ukrainian and Russian diplomas. Those studying in 1-3 years will be able to choose whether to stay to study here or transfer to any other Russian university. The banking institute itself will be included in the Sevastopol State University (In the past - SevNTU, and in Soviet times - SPI). There is no need to sow panic,” said Oganesyan.

To the intimate question: “What were people with weapons and wearing masks doing here?”, the official answered evasively: “It was a forced measure. Otherwise, a bad situation could happen. I can’t tell you the details yet. Later. I will say one thing - we did everything to preserve the institute. Take my word for it."

After this, Oganesyan left the university building, citing urgent matters. At the same time, he promised that he would meet with students next week and answer all questions.

“And tomorrow the lectures are as scheduled. May everyone go to college!” – concluded the head of the education department.
