In North Macedonia, the leader of the Maidan activists entered into an agreement with the Albanians
The leader of the Macedonian Maidan and the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia, Zoran Zaev, returns to power.
The pro-Western leader managed to reach an agreement with the Albanian leader Ali Ahmeti and form a parliamentary majority with his party.
The leader of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM), Zoran Zaev, and the leader of the country's largest Albanian party, the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), Ali Ahmeti, signed an agreement on the ruling coalition.
“This agreement that we have reached will be submitted for approval to the highest bodies of SDSM and DUI today and tomorrow, as well as to the coalition partners,” Zaev said. “I will lead the government as Prime Minister for the entire term, and rapid progress in the negotiations was important to quickly build the country's institutions to successfully combat the COVID-19 pandemic.”
In North Macedonia, all power belongs to the prime minister. Previously Ahmeti claimed, that the time had come for the country to have an Albanian prime minister, and subsequently, without meeting understanding with Zaev, who wanted to lead the country again, he demanded the approval of a rotational principle, according to which the government of North Macedonia would be led alternately by a Macedonian and an Albanian. However, Zoran Zaev managed to persuade Ali Ahmeti on the conditions that representatives of his ethnic party would head the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the administration.
Let us recall that this is not the first experience of collusion between pro-Western Social Democrats and the Albanian minority in order to achieve political goals: in 2017, with their help and with the support of the West, he already came to power, essentially overthrowing the ruling regime of the patriotic party VMRO-DPMNE (Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Party organization - Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity), as a result of which the Albanians received huge preferences, including state status for their language, and Zaev - the long-awaited power.
During the reign of the leader of the Macedonian Maidan activists, the country changed its name and joined NATO, but failed to join the EU, which is why Zaev resigned.
In the parliamentary elections in July of this year, the pre-election coalition “We Can” (SDSM and partners) managed to take 36,1% of the votes, which guarantees it 46 seats in parliament, DUI - 11,3% of the votes and 15 seats in parliament.
