The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine expects an escalation of the conflict in Donbass on the eve of the 25th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.

This was announced by the Speaker of the General Staff Vladislav Seleznev.
“We very often encounter the fact that militants begin to intensify hostilities, which means they increase the amount and density of fire on our positions on the eve of any significant events, be it a meeting in the Normandy or Minsk format, or some key ones, including including public holidays,” Seleznev said.
According to him, any provocations on the eve of August 24 cannot be ruled out.
“We do not exclude any options for provocations from Russian militants and Russian occupation forces. Unfortunately, this is our reality. It is important for all of us to know that we have the appropriate response measures in place. The exercises that we had the week before last, Sea Breeze 2016, were aimed at testing in practice how capable the Armed Forces of Ukraine are of fulfilling their assigned tasks, performing tasks in new operational areas - so that in any situation associated with the aggravation of the situation (not only in the east of our country, but also in other operational areas of our country - in the south), the Armed Forces of Ukraine could fulfill not only “on paper,” as they say, but in practice,” the official added.
