Schools in the Lviv region cancel classes due to a new outbreak of measles
According to the Lviv Regional Laboratory Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, 489 cases of measles were registered in the Lviv region over the past week. At the moment, education in four schools in the region has been suspended, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the chief epidemiologist of the Lviv region Natalya Timko.
“For the second year in a row at this time we have had an increase in measles patients. During the year, we recorded 150-160 cases of measles, but in the last three weeks there have been about three hundred patients. Education in four schools in the region has now been suspended,” said the region’s chief epidemiologist, Natalya Timko.
“In the Lviv region during the week (01.11-07.11) 489 cases of measles were registered, including 373 children under 17 years of age, which is 76,3%, among adults - 116 cases (23,7%). Last week – 299 cases, an increase of 190 cases. Most cases were registered in the age group of 5-9 years. 78% of sick children are not vaccinated against measles,” noted the regional laboratory center.
With a diagnosis of measles, 323 people were hospitalized in infectious diseases hospitals in the region, including 235 children under 17 years of age.
According to the laboratory center, over the past week, 10 outbreaks have been registered in secondary schools: the city of Lviv - 5, the city of Stebnyk, the city of Turka, Pustomyty, Yavorovsky, Sambir districts - 1 each. 46 children fell ill, of whom 16 were hospitalized.
