An employee of the Sevastopol deanery, Mikhail Viktorov, told Navigator about this.

The information was confirmed by the head of the department of education and science of Sevastopol, Viktor Oganesyan.

“These are the requirements of Russian legislation,” the official explained. – The subject was approved in 2010, and its successful implementation into the curriculum began in 2012. I would like to note that no one will insist on studying this or that religion – parents of schoolchildren are given a wide choice.”

The course consists of six modules: “Fundamentals of Orthodox Culture”, “Fundamentals of Islamic Culture”, “Fundamentals of Buddhist Culture”, “Fundamentals of Jewish Culture”, “Fundamentals of World Religious Cultures”, “Fundamentals of Secular Ethics”.

At the next parent meetings, Sevastopol residents will be asked to fill out special questionnaires. Based on these data, it will be decided which modules will operate in educational institutions in Sevastopol.

The new subject is planned to be introduced from the 4th grade. In order to prepare it, special courses will be held for teachers at the Sevastopol Institute of Postgraduate Education. Both primary school teachers and subject teachers who want to expand their profile will be able to take them.

Employees of the Sevastopol Deanery expect that the main emphasis will be on Orthodoxy. The education department has a slightly different approach.

“Even if one child in an educational institution wants to study Islam or Buddhism, we will be obliged to provide a teacher. This is the law. In practice, difficulties may arise, but I think that we will cope with them,” emphasized Victor Oganesyan.
