Spacecraft delivered to Simferopol
On the eve of Cosmonautics Day, two capsules of descent vehicles were installed on Cosmonaut Alley in Simferopol.
Both visited low-Earth orbit, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The open-air cosmonautics museum on the alley near the Cosmos cinema is being created by the Sputnik association. First of all, two busts of cosmonauts Yuri Gagarin and Sergei Korolev were installed here. Two years ago, Roscosmos donated two antennas for receiving space communications signals to the association - Kedr and Delta.
“These antennas symbolize the beginning of the space age in Crimea,” said lobbyist for the peninsula’s space heritage, deputy of the State Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan Valery Aksenov. “In 1960, a center for deep space communications was created, and these antennas were among the first to start working in space.”
New exhibits were the capsules of the descent vehicles. One of them delivered the crew of the Soyuz spacecraft to Earth, the other had a technical purpose. There are plans to install several more facilities for the development of domestic astronautics.
The authorities of Simferopol joined the alley to the park named after. Gagarin to consolidate a single “space” complex. At the same time, the Cosmos cinema with a unique mosaic panel is now in a deplorable state - its former tenant was expelled by court decision, and the future depends on the Ministry of Culture of Crimea.
