The mayor of the city, Viktor Ageev, told reporters about this.
According to him, the State Council of the Republic of Crimea approached the local authorities with such a proposal. This initiative was also supported by the townspeople.
“The mayor's office receives numerous calls from local residents who are convinced that the time has come to restore historical toponymy. But, of course, this requires material costs for making signs, changing addresses and documents for residents of these streets. To avoid confusion, for now we will install double signs on the streets,” the mayor noted.
Thus, the historical names will be returned to the following streets: st. Karl Marx - Ekaterininskaya St.; st. Shmidta - st. Potemkinskaya; st. Vorovskogo - st. Vorontsovskaya; st. Lenina - st. Lazarevskaya; st. Zhelyabova - st. Provincial; st. Dzerzhinsky - st. Arendtovskaya.
In addition, they want to rename Lenin Square to Victory Square, and Kirov Avenue to Republic Avenue.
