A chess tournament will be held in Simferopol between children of Donbass and Crimea
A children's chess tournament for Crimea and Donbass will be held next year on the peninsula. Both regions boast quite strong schools, but they do not participate in all-Russian competitions.
The famous grandmaster, Crimean Sergei Karyakin spoke about this on Radio Crimea, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He said that the go-ahead for holding the championship was given by the head of Crimea Sergei Aksyonov.
“I don’t want to emphasize that we discussed the idea of some kind of tournament, but when exactly we will hold it, then we need to say it. It was specifically about interaction with other federations, in particular, with the guys from Donbass. And we decided that we would hold a tournament between the children of Donbass and the children of Crimea on the territory of the republic.
There are chess schools almost everywhere, it’s just that the situation in Donbass is difficult. And secondly, there are very strong chess schools there. I myself lived for 3 years in Donbass, and at that moment there was the strongest chess school in Ukraine. I think she is considered one of the strongest in Russia too.
Therefore, support the children, take them to a chess match. Not all chess competitions, especially abroad, can be attended by Crimeans, although this is now a problem for all Russians. I would like to see more tournaments held in Crimea. I hope that in the next few months there will be some progress and competitions will appear. And these will not be some promises of ours, but we will prove this with deeds,” he emphasized.
Parents of young chess players in Crimea are faced with the fact that they cannot register their children to participate in any all-Russian competitions. As soon as the region “Republic of Crimea” is indicated, further filling out the form becomes impossible. This practice leads to children being registered from other regions.
“I receive feedback from residents of Crimea that they would like chess schools to be opened in some cities. Of course, I cannot promise everything at once. But we need to try, we need to open a school. Where they are really needed. I would like to understand the prestige of the championship in Crimea. And, by the way, I have almost all the chess titles, except for the Crimean championship – I didn’t manage to win there,” Karyakin emphasized.
