A press conference of fighters for Russian Crimea was disrupted in Simferopol
In Simferopol on Tuesday, a press conference on the events preceding the start of the Russian Spring, in which ex-President of Crimea Yuri Meshkov, who lives in Moscow, was planned to participate via Skype, was disrupted.
Meshkov is known for criticizing the leadership of Crimea and senators from the republic, arguing that current Russian officials and parliamentarians until recently did not dare to support the demands of the Crimeans for the reunification of the peninsula with the Russian Federation.
“On January 29, a press conference was supposed to be held by the first President of the Republic of Crimea, Yuri Meshkov and his associates... However, the editors of Komsomolskaya Pravda canceled the event at the last moment, although it was already paid for by the Moscow-Crimea Foundation,” said Anatoly Los, one of participants of the failed press conference.
Los and his like-minded people started an argument with the press center staff, but the event was never held.
“In the morning they called our press secretary and said that they were not ready to accept us and that they would return our money for the rented hall. The reason is that someone called from the Council of Ministers of Crimea and urgently asked us to refuse. This is probably all you need to know about freedom of speech in Crimea. People who dedicated their lives to the fight for Russian Crimea were supposed to come to this event,” comments Kerch social activist Konstantin Ermanov.
