“The administration of Simferopol will offer a number of land plots for the installation of a memorial stone, and the working group will have to present a concept for the appearance of the monument. I think that in the near future we will be able to surprise Crimeans and guests of the peninsula with our decisions and ideas,” Balbec said.
In August 1807, Kaya-Bey Balatukov was appointed commander of the newly created Simferopol cavalry Tatar regiment on the Prussian border in connection with the outbreak of war with France.
With the beginning of the Patriotic War of 1812, he took part in hostilities as part of Ataman Platov’s corps.
In the corps of General Wittgenstein, he participated in a foreign campaign in the battles of Tilsit, Brandenburg, and especially distinguished himself as part of the detachment of Lieutenant General Levise along with the regiment during the capture of Danzig, for which on December 7, 1813 he was promoted to major general. For military merits, while still in the rank of lieutenant colonel, on December 31, 1812, he was awarded the Order of St. George, IV degree, the Order of St. Anna II degree and St. Vladimir III and IV degrees. Later he was also awarded the Order of St. Anna I degree.
He also initiated the creation of the Crimean Tatar Guards squadron, which in April 1827 entered service in St. Petersburg.
