The weekly Crimean Telegraph writes about this, having received an audio letter from the prisoner.
The reason for the protest, the publication notes, is simple - the criminals are confident that in Ukraine they will be shown leniency for maintaining Ukrainian citizenship and renouncing Russian citizenship.
“The question is different,” KT analyzes the situation. – The prisoners say that they allegedly violated the law of Ukraine, so they should be tried there. But today the victims (survivors) and witnesses are in Crimea, therefore, on Russian territory. And the scenes of the incident were mainly Crimean (the gang also operated in the South-East - “Navigator”). If trials take place in Ukraine, the question arises: how to deliver witnesses, victims, and witnesses there? In stages, like prisoners? But since Ukraine considers Crimea an annexed territory, there is no transportation between them, and not a single Crimean will go there voluntarily. But it’s more convenient for prisoners – that’s what they insist on.”
In addition, the weekly emphasizes, prisoners who have not accepted Russian citizenship complain about the more stringent laws of the Russian Federation and difficult conditions in prisons.
“As for the reason for the hunger strike - the transfer of a prisoner to another state, this in no way falls within the competence of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service for Crimea; such issues are resolved at the level of the ministries of justice of the mentioned states. But Ukraine is silent…” writes Crimean Telegraph.
