“The situation in the city is still, thank God, normal, all services are operating as normal, and current issues and problems are being resolved promptly. At the moment, I don’t see any problems in providing the city with water and food. There are some difficulties. Well, it's okay. We overcome everything else,” Ponomarev said at a press conference about how he manages to ensure the life of the city.
“That night we carried out preventive strikes on the concentration of Ukrainian troops in Malinovka, Semenovka, Karachun, and a checkpoint near the Feed Mill. They didn’t touch BSS and Krasny Liman, but get ready. Who knows will understand. We are at war, the city is working, there is enough food, everyone still has a set of ammunition, at least two,” reported the “people’s mayor.”
Journalist Arkady Babchenko wrote on his Facebook page that perhaps the militia in Slavyansk are preparing to surround military checkpoints.
“Well, in general, as far as can be understood from information from the ground, there is an attempt to surround the checkpoints with fairly significant enemy forces. Shooting is constant from all sides. The road at the entrance to one of the blocks is cut, and at the entrance to the second, apparently, too. Grenade launchers are working from the hills next to one of the blocks - the distance is only four hundred meters. And it seems that “Nona” is working somewhere in the forest plantation, and has come close - but this is not yet certain. But the mortars work tightly and over a large area of destruction. If previously they worked locally at one checkpoint, now they work at least at two. There are snipers working from the Chemical Plant. Perhaps, we can probably expect an assault attempt,” Babchenko said.
The ATO headquarters also confirmed the activity of Slavic militias.
“Trying to break through the encirclement in the area of the city of Slavyansk, the militants fired from automatic weapons and grenade launchers. The militants' attempts to break through were repulsed by return fire. There are no casualties among Ukrainian military personnel,” Vladislav Seleznev, head of the ATO information task force, states on his Facebook page.
“According to operational information, avoiding responsibility for their actions, in order to secretly evacuate the city, the militants invited local residents to leave Slavyansk,” he said.
