Shaldu was sentenced to a 5-year suspended sentence several months ago for helping to hold a referendum on the independence of Donbass.
After the verdict was announced, the local education department called for the teacher's dismissal.
Members of the school's trade union committee in full force opposed the dismissal of their colleague.
However, the city department of education fired Shalda for an allegedly “immoral act.”
The computer scientist sued the education department, demanding that he be reinstated and also be paid his average salary. However, Ukrainian judge Roman Kuznetsov refused to satisfy the claim.
