“There is no need for any excitement. We have everything thought out about how the defense will be conducted if something happens. Of course, it is very easy to predict the behavior of crazy people. And we are fighting with the crazy ones. It is difficult to predict what they will use against us. If they had an atomic bomb, they would probably use an atomic bomb. If there were chemicals, chemicals would be used. That is, we are at war, by and large, with absolute evil, fascism, you know. And here, any healthy man must stand up headlong to defend his homeland,” said DPR Deputy Defense Minister Fyodor Berezin.
“Nothing works out. But they are storming,” noted DPR Prime Minister Alexander Boroday, answering questions about the actions of security forces in Slavyansk.
“The forecast for Donetsk is unclear. Because, you understand, Donetsk is not Slavyansk. Storming Donetsk is difficult and dangerous not only from a military point of view, but also from a political and foreign policy point of view, quite difficult and dangerous for, I would say, pro-Ukrainian armed formations. Different types. So far they have not decided to engage in intensive hostilities,” he noted.
In turn, Berezin explained who is expected as volunteers.
“We accept militias from anywhere. Even if they come from Brazil, we will accept them. What we have now is essentially Spain before World War II. You see. We will accept any internationalists who come here. But for now there are no streams, but I hope there will be. Let the men come, we will arm them. We will teach them,” assured Igor Strelkov’s deputy.
“Slavyansk is the Brest Fortress for us. If we lose it, the battle will be lost. Why do we need to lose the battle, lose people, lose experienced personnel, lose equipment and, by and large, lose the city? Yesterday the local population was released, in what manner? Women and children were released by the junta, men turned back. They were told this: “We’ll get even with you.” That is, there will be complete destruction of those who remain in the city, if suddenly, God forbid, something happens there. But the fact is that yesterday the most powerful attack of all time was repulsed: the junta rolled back.
It turns out that with all the forces of this country, you know, all this sedimented Ukraine: they have collected everything they can, and cannot take this Slavyansk. Do you understand? Despite the fact that larger-caliber howitzers, mortars, and so on are delivered there. And they, however, failed,” he emphasized.
“Now they are licking their wounds and wondering what they should do next, what dirty trick they should commit. That is, for example, in Lugansk. What military significance does shelling the administration have? None. If it were captured after that, it would have military significance. Or kill one of the politicians who is interfering with them. OK. Has military significance. If it doesn't happen, what's the point? This is simply an act of terrorism. I have a plane, I flew and shot. All. Well, they found an unprincipled pilot there who did it for money.
We are fighting the junta absolutely free of charge. I don't make absolutely a penny. Well, they feed me. They feed, clothe, as you see, and arm. The same militia... They work harder than a regular army... The local population helps us very seriously. In supplies... We have our own home everywhere. And they have enemy territory everywhere,” Berezin believes.
