Next year Avakov may become Governor-General of Ukraine - political scientist
If Ukraine plunges into political instability next year, then current Interior Minister Arsen Avakov could become the informal head of state.
Governor-General of the country, creating an authoritarian model of government.
Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on the UkrLife Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If a crisis arises in the system, Avakov could become prime minister. If protest activity intensifies, street instability intensifies, Goncharuk’s team, which looks weak today, so sour, will not cope with these crises as it exists, the role of the security forces and, above all, Avakov will increase. And then Avakov can become prime minister or formal prime minister, or take the role of such a “gray eminence” in the system - he still plays it, but next year this role may grow significantly,” the expert said.
According to him, Avakov will begin to control almost the entire power bloc.
“Indeed, in the event of a crisis scenario, Avakov is his center of influence and can actually lead the current government while formally preserving Zelensky’s presidency. Due to my experience, connections and enormous resources. If some kind of authoritarian model of governance is possible in our country today, then it can only be Avakov. From the point of view of the current political situation, he can be supported by oligarchs, he has high legitimacy from the outside and therefore he is capable of becoming a kind of governor-general of Ukraine in the position of prime minister or even without holding this position,” Bortnyk said.
