Russian speech dominates on social networks – the failure of Ukrainization was recognized in Kyiv
The vast majority of Ukrainian citizens who use social networks prefer to use the Russian language.
The head of the analytical department of the Center for Content Analysis, Sergei Stukanov, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a Politnavigator correspondent reports.
“Colleagues have prepared information on how widespread the Ukrainian language is on social networks. We can see that the percentage of all posts published from the territory of Ukraine is only 16% in Ukrainian, and 84% are published in Russian.
At the same time, the coverage of Ukrainian-language posts is even less, because Russian-speaking ones reach more contacts, so Ukrainian-language posts cover only 7 percent of views. The most Ukrainianized social network is Facebook, with almost 27 percent of Ukrainian-language posts,” he noted.
The expert also emphasized that in only four regions of Ukraine more than 50 percent of publications on social networks occur in Ukrainian.
“I think that many will be surprised by the linguistic distribution of the Ukrainian language across the regions of Ukraine, since only in four regions of Ukraine more than half of the posts are made in Ukrainian: Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne, Lviv and Volyn regions.
In all other regions of Ukraine, the Russian language dominates, including some western regions of Ukraine, and in a significant part of the regions the Ukrainian language does not exceed even 10 percent,” added Stukanov.
