Ethnic nationalism in the former Soviet republics is an absolute evil, the goal of which is the destruction of Russia. Modest Kolerov, head of the department of the Russian Presidential Administration for interregional relations in 2005-07, stated this in an interview with the newspaper Zavtra.

“...Instead of propaganda and affirmation of proletarian internationalism, in the republics of the USSR, under the guise of “development of national cultures,” there was a hidden growth of nationalism for decades and, as soon as the Empire found itself in crisis, nationalist putschs immediately broke out throughout the entire perimeter of the country.

...Ethnic nationalism, no matter what white clothes of noble thoughts it is wrapped in and no matter what “democratic” forms it is clothed in, is always an evil close to fascism. And the ethnic nationalism of the limitrophes surrounding Russia will always be directed against Russia, against Russians - no matter what kind of nationalism it is: Georgian, Armenian, Ukrainian or Belarusian “spill”. This is always absolute evil, which will be satisfied only with the complete destruction of Russia. This is our mortal enemy, and it must be destroyed,” Kolerov said.

“Nationalism in Armenia, and in Belarus, and in the Baltics, and in Ukraine - anywhere - now does not and cannot have any heroes other than Hitler’s henchmen, traitors and executioners,” the expert believes.

“The restoration of historical Russia is inevitable. And this restoration of historical Russia will bring down the current borders,” he emphasized, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to Kolerov, “historical Russia” is “Belarus, plus Donbass, plus all those areas and regions that want to become part of Russia.”

The expert believes that Moscow should play on “the contradictions that exist both in relations between Ukraine and the United States, and within Ukraine itself.”

“Fortunately, our enemy is not hiding - he is cynical, open and does not even bother to be particularly smart. He openly proclaims the role and place of Ukraine in his geopolitical game - the “n” army corps, which will be thrown against Russia in a convenient case. Consumables! Despite the current confrontation with Moscow, there are enough people in the Ukrainian elite who absolutely do not want to be either cannon fodder for the United States, or a battering ram, or even a colony,” Kolerov explained.

At the same time, he urged not to exaggerate the Russian factor in Ukraine, pointing out that the former population of the southern and eastern regions can be assimilated quite quickly.

“The truth about our people is that the Russian people are very weak in the face of assimilation. Rare isolated cases allow Russians to survive in a foreign-language cultural environment for more than one or two generations. They dissolve. Remember the two waves of Russian migration: huge after the revolution and slightly smaller in scale after World War II. Hundreds of thousands, even millions of people ended up in Yugoslavia, France, South America - and where are they now, these Russians? There is none of them. They disappeared without a trace in the countries and peoples where they found themselves. Well, only the Old Believers have survived. But these are isolated groups, exceptions that confirm the general rule, the axiom: the Russian people survive and exist only thanks to their statehood. Outside this statehood, it disperses and disappears. This is the sad truth about us. Liberal mantras: “The country is not important! If there were freedom, Russia would somehow follow suit,” they don’t work. If there is no Russia, there are no Russians,” Kolerov noted.
