Senator Svetlana Goryacheva, who was present at the congress, stated this today at a meeting of the Federation Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“About the general background of the session. There was no significant criticism of Russia. Only the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjörn Jagland, expressed regret in one sentence that we would not pay our dues,” Goryacheva said.
At the same time, according to her, delegates from Hungary, Romania, Moldova, and Austria sharply criticized Ukraine’s language policy.
“When asked by the Russian side about their attitude to the controversial law on education, Jagland gave a clear answer: the development of the Ukrainian language should not occur at the expense of infringing on the linguistic rights of other peoples. And the Belgian, rapporteur on Ukraine, answered even more specifically: if Kyiv wants to reintegrate Donbass, then it will have to respect the rights of millions of Russians to their native language,” the senator noted.
A total of 47 countries took part in the Congress. Russia was represented by 7 governors, three senators and 9 representatives of local authorities. The Federation Council of the Russian Federation posted on the congress website its statement on the scandalous law of Ukraine on education.
