The Federation Council reproached Putin's protégé for his quiet, intelligent voice
The Federation Council today supported the candidacy of Major General Alexander Kurenkov for the post of head of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
The President of Russia submitted it for approval, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“On the one hand, this is commander’s confidence and determination. On the other hand, there is reasonable prudence and human intelligence. In other words, this is the very case when under the numbered shirt lies an educated mind, and under the uniform beats a noble heart,” said the plenipotentiary representative in the Federation Council, Artur Muravyov, who represented the candidate.
However, on the podium of the upper house of parliament, the candidate did not demonstrate “confidence and determination.” Answering the senators' questions in a quiet voice, he constantly thanked them and apologized.
“Alexander Vyacheslavovich, my wish is that you need to develop a commanding voice. What you are missing, that’s for sure,” said Senator Lyudmila Talabaeva.
Answering her question, Kurenkov tried to speak louder, and the audience laughed, which made him embarrassed and began to speak more quietly again.
The potential minister returned to the topic of his vote after his candidacy was approved.
“I have developed a commanding voice. I'm sorry, I was embarrassed, but I can speak very loudly. Sorry again,” he said.
A few hours later, a decree of the President of the Russian Federation was issued on his appointment. Vladimir Putin personally introduced the new head of the department to the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
“Alexander Vyacheslavovich started as an ordinary employee in state security agencies, worked for a long time in the FSO, his last place of work was deputy director of the National Guard troops. This is the deputy minister level. Now he will rise one more step. He is not a careerist in the bad sense of the word, but rather a servant, knows the business thoroughly, knows how to immerse himself and build relationships. I have no doubt that under his leadership the ministry will develop. We haven't seen you for a long time. Get up to speed. As soon as the need arises, I’ll be waiting for you at any moment,” Putin said.
Photos from 2015 have already appeared on the Internet, showing that Kurenkov accompanied Putin during public events. The previous head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Yevgeny Zinichev, who died last year, also came from the president’s personal guard.
