The Federation Council supports the abolition of cages in court hearings
Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko spoke out against the fact that defendants in Russian courts are placed in cages.
The speaker stated this during a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“When a trial is underway, a person has not yet been found guilty by the court, but he is already, as it were, isolated from society and sitting in a cage or, as they are also called, in an aquarium. This is simply humiliating, cameras are filming this, television is showing it. A person can be acquitted in a month, but the fact that he is behind bars will forever be on the Internet, for his children, for his grandchildren, for his friends,” Matvienko said.
According to the speaker, her position is shared by many senators and supported by the head of the Supreme Court.
