The Federation Council proposes to introduce the concept of the Russian World into the security concept
It would be worthwhile to introduce the concept of “Russian World” into the National Security Strategy of the Russian Federation in terms of protecting state sovereignty, approved by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Director of the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexei Gromyko spoke about this during a meeting of the Interim Commission of the Federation Council for the Protection of State Sovereignty, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The only thing that could be heard in this section and is appropriate for it, what I was missing, is the concept of the Russian World, which has been worked out in philosophical and applied terms for a long time, it is also in books, the Russian World Foundation has been working a lot years. It seems to me that what was felt at one time in the worldview of the new Russia, among other things, is the concept of the Russian World, but here this concept does not appear. But it also seems to me personally that due to external influence, we, at least for now, do not have a real threat of loss of cultural sovereignty.
The Concept says this, but at the same time, I understand that from a strategic and preventive perspective, concern about this is quite appropriate and justified. Moreover, the situation with humanities education in Russia and the moral foundations of our society, unfortunately, is far from ideal. By the way, this also shows the attitude of a significant part of our population towards the issue of vaccination,” Gromyko explained.
In turn, Oleg Gavrilov, Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Press of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, objected to his colleague that in fact the document provides for this concept, albeit without using a direct term.
“It sounded very meaningful today in the context of the president’s publication about the historical unity of Russians and Ukrainians. We talked about the Russian World here, it is so represented in the Strategy, we believe that if the direct term Russian World was not used, then it was heard here. Moreover, in the right context – in the context of the section devoted to strategic stability and mutually beneficial international cooperation,” Gavrilov argued.
“Paragraph 17 of the Strategy states that the actions of some countries are aimed at inspiring disintegration processes in the CIS in order to destroy Russia’s connection with its traditional allies. It is important to note that legally, terminologically, such destabilizing influences, of course, are not directly described by interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation. And, nevertheless, it is almost impossible to deny that such intrusive steps, which sometimes take the form of shameless geopolitical engineering, have a very tangible painful projection on our country and provoke threats to national security,” added the Russian Foreign Ministry official.
