The list of “oligarchs” will include political opponents of Zelensky, and not real oligarchs
The “anti-oligarchic” law, adopted today in the second reading by the Verkhovna Rada, is not directed against real oligarchs, but against opponents of President Vladimir Zelensky personally and the authorities in general.
Economist Alexander Okhrimenko told a PolitNavigator correspondent about this.
“This law will create problems for those Ukrainian businessmen who are not oligarchs. The National Security and Defense Council will appoint some businessmen as oligarchs at its discretion; these will most often be opponents of the government, opponents of Zelensky. They will be “oligarchs,” but the NSDC will not notice the real oligarchs.
We will see a very funny situation - on the one hand, we seem to have oligarchs, but these are some strange oligarchs. There will be no real fight against real oligarchs. Will Kolomoisky be classified as an oligarch? Of course not. Will Poroshenko be classified as an oligarch? Of course not.
Who is most likely to suffer is Viktor Medvedchuk. Most likely, he will actually be added to the list of oligarchs and they will shout that, look, he’s an oligarch,” summed up Alexander Okhrimenko.
