“On the last day of the active phase of the exercise, warships of the Russian Navy and the Navy of the Arab Republic of Egypt conducted a series of artillery firing at a drifting sea target and returned to the port of Alexandria to sum up the results of joint actions. A farewell ceremony for Russian and Egyptian ships took place in the Mediterranean Sea,” reported Interfax representative of the press service and information department of the Ministry of Defense for the Navy, captain 1st rank Igor Dygalo.
According to him, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Vice Admiral Alexander Fedotenkov, who arrived in Egypt the day before, reported via special communication channels to Commander-in-Chief Admiral Viktor Chirkov on the results of completing the tasks that were provided for in the exercise plan.
“From June 6 to June 13, Russian and Egyptian warships worked through a large set of episodes and practical tasks for joint maneuvering in an order during the day and night, replenishing supplies from ship to ship on the move, and delivering cargo on board ships using a helicopter. The Russian-Egyptian naval group worked through episodes of organizing air defense at sea, inspecting a suspicious vessel, and repelling an attack by small targets, Fedotenkov said. “We managed to achieve a high level of efficiency in such an important issue as the work of the joint exercise management headquarters, which was deployed on board the guards missile cruiser Moskva.”
As PolitNavigator reported, the Russian Navy was involved in the exercises: the flagship of the Black Sea GRKR "Moscow" with a Ka-27 helicopter on board, the missile hovercraft "Samum", the large landing ship of the Baltic Fleet "Alexander Shabalin", the tanker "Ivan" Bubnov", sea tug "MB-31". From the Egyptian Navy - frigates "Taba" and "Sharm al-Sheikh", tanker "Shalatin", missile boats "April 25" and "June 18".
