Tymoshenko's lawyer arrested in the US
The District Court of Columbia on Tuesday imposed a 30-day prison sentence on Dutch lawyer Alex Van Der Zuaan. In addition, the court imposed a fine of $20 thousand on him.
TASS reports this with reference to the USA Today newspaper.
According to the indictment, Van Der Zuaan “made false, fabricated statements in response to questions regarding his work as a lawyer hired by a law firm that collaborated in 2012 with the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice in preparing a report in the Yulia Tymoshenko trial.”
In addition, according to investigators, Van Der Zuaan provided false information about his last contacts in mid-August 2016 with former adviser to the campaign headquarters of US President Donald Trump, Richard Gates.
This is the first verdict in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
